Zhejiang University was the co-organizer of the 3rd China International Congress on Composite Materials (CCCM-3), October 21st - 23rd, 2017 in Hangzhou. CCCM-3 was organized by the Chinese Society for Composite Materials and Hangzhou municipal Government, co-organized by Hangzhou Association for Science and Technology and Zhejiang University.

Academician Du Shanyi, Honorary President of Chinese Society for Composite Materials (CSCM) attended the conference with 8 other academicians. Professor Zhang Ze, the Director of the Academic Committee of Zhejiang University delivered a speech in the opening ceremony. Professor Peng HuaXin, Director of the Institute for Composites Science Innovation (InCSI) of Zhejiang University acted as the vice chair of the organizing committee and chaired the international symposium of the CCCM-3. Professor Qin FaxiangDeputy Director of InCSI, hosted the Junior Scientists Forum on Multifunctional Composites. Staff members and students of Zhejiang University actively participated in the organization and academic exchanges of theconference as volunteers in support the conference.

With the theme of  "Compositing new Materials, Path to the Future". CCCM-3 aimed to bridge scientific research, technological development and industrial processes. The topics covered advanced composite materials, composite structural design, manufacturing process, performance characterization and evaluation.  Over 2,000 participants attended the conference.

In the opening ceremony, Academician Zhang Ze pointed out that materials science played an important role in building "double-first-class" universities and disciplines. As a cross-disciplinary subject, composite materials needed the talents from different backgrounds to work together to make greater achievements. Young scientists are expected to carry the inheritance of disciplines and bring new accomplishments to the development of disciplines with international collaborations.

In the Junior Scientists Forum, hosted by Prof. Qin Faxiang, over 30 invited speakers from 26  research institutes and universities attended. The well received  forum were focused on composite structural design, new functional composite materials and the application of micro-nano composite materials, etc. which was voted as one of the top ten excellent sessions of the conference.
